The Hoover Dam, which holds back the mighty Colorado River forming Lake Mead, is located on the Arizona-Nevada border, about 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas. When you’re at Hoover Dam, take time to walk on the Dam, visit the visitor center and gift shop. Be sure and take the time to go to The Mike O’Callaghan– Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. The bypass bridge over the Colorado River is viewable from the dam as you drive across. It is the world’s highest concrete arch bridge. Don’t miss the spectacular views of Hoover Dam from the top of the bridge.
Lake Mead National Recreation Area, is also minutes away to enjoy, Don’t forget to stop at the Lake Mead Overlook for spectacular views of Lake Mead as well as The Hoover Dam Hotel with its beautiful photo collections of the history of Hoover Dam
Boulder City was built in 1931 to house the dam workers. It is one of only 2 cities in Nevada where gambling is illegal. Visitors can enjoy shopping, antique stores, a museum, parks and restaurants.
